Landscape Forms, North America’s leading designer and manufacturer of premium site furniture, structure, lighting, and accessories, is pleased to announce the expansion of its award-winning Parallel 42 modular seating system designed by Landscape Forms. The new additions include innovative planter modules and terraced bench modules, offered in 30-degree left-hand, right-hand, and wedge configurations. These enhancements dramatically broaden the possibilities and creative freedom when activating and defining outdoor space.
"The new additions to Parallel 42 exponentially ramp up the line's possible configurations," says Landscape Forms Director of Design, Ryan Heiser. "Combining the planters with the new terraced bench modules, you open up a whole new world of possibilities to define and activate outdoor space - use them to break up space, frame and enliven space, create social pinch points, form outdoor 'rooms' with green walls, and that's just the beginning."
The new planter modules are designed to integrate seamlessly with new and existing Parallel 42 bench modules or to stand alone as biophilic space defining elements. Whether used to break up open areas, activate spaces with greenery, outline social gathering points, or establish semi-private outdoor rooms and respite spaces, new Parallel 42 planter modules serve as the functional and aesthetic building blocks for designers to realize their unique visions.
Complementing the planters, the new terraced bench modules serve as simple, elegant solutions to addressing a wide range of postures and use cases in outdoor space - from sitting, leaning and working on a laptop, to perching, stretching out and putting one's feet up. Approachable from 360 degrees and compatible with existing Parallel 42 modules, terraced seating furthers the line's ability to redefine the traditional bench experience, welcome new interactions, and help users feel truly at home outdoors.
"What's beautiful about modular, non-prescriptive seating is that each user gets the opportunity to interact with the space in their own unique way," Heiser continues. "Because it doesn't tell you that 'you have to approach me from this side' or 'you have to sit facing this way,' Parallel 42's use cases are that much broader and its design opportunities that much more inspiring."
The addition of the Illumination and Power Kit on any of the Parallel 42 seating modules – both new and existing – adds further functionality and creative possibility, neatly integrating 120V power, USB Type-C device charging and the warm, welcoming glow of LED lighting.
Also joining the new modules, the expansion also includes a new material option for Kebony® Dually Modified™ Wood on all new and existing Parallel 42 modules. In this patented technique, Kebony uses a bio-based liquid to significantly enhance the wood's strength, hardness and longevity, achieving the performance of a tropical hardwood while lessening environmental impact.
The Parallel 42 expansion reflects the totality of product feedback gathered from the field, as Landscape Forms continually strives to meet the evolving needs of landscape architects and designers.
“The Parallel 42 system has been extremely successful for us — there’s a lot of product out there in the field, and we’ve collected a lot of feedback from landscape architects about how they’re using it,” says Kirt Martin, Chief Innovation Officer at Landscape Forms. “This most recent expansion to the line represents a coalescing of that feedback along with input from our Specials and Studio 431 custom divisions to give customers exactly what they’re requesting as part of a standard range.”
